Rename GTA V DLC Folders - SUPER EASY

 

Have you ever installed an MLO or Vehicle with a really dumb or cryptic folder name? Well you can generally change the name in 2 very easy steps.  See video below.

 

MLO Interiors and Vehicles

Step 1: Rename the folder in Open IV (pronounced Open 4) or in Windows Explorer
Step 2. Rename the folder in your dlclist.xml to match the new name

In general, you do not need to change the names in content.xml or setup2.xml. This will not impact the vehicle spawn name, all it does is make the folder name match your tastes.

Streaming Peds

Step 1: Rename the folder in Open IV
Step 2. Rename the ymt and yft files to match

For example, if your Addon Ped was called LaraCroft and you wanted to change it simply to Lara
1. Rename Folder LaraCroft to Lara
2. Rename LaraCroft.ymt to Lara.ymt
3. Rename LaraCroft.yft to Lara.yft
4. Unlike changing a Vehicle Folder name, renaming a streamed ped will change its spawn name. In our example the spawn name is now Lara.

Important: there are many ways to install addon peds. Depending on the tools you use, you will need to update the tool with the name change. These tools are for noobs. Real men do this manually and just edit peds.meta.

Does this work for Vehicle Spawn Names?
No, changing a Vehicle folder name does not impact the spawn name. To change a vehicle spawn name you will need to make changes to the yft file as well as meta data and modkit entries. If there is interest we will make a tutorial on this.
