Recovering from Los Santos Drug Wars
After the December 2022 GTA5 patch (update 1.64) many gamers found their modded game broke, as they invariably do after a patch or update. You may want to read why it broke, Why does Rockstar break the game?
To anyone reading this post who can't load their game, who is experiencing crashes, or who has broken mods or scripts, guess what? This is normal. This was expected. It's called a GTA5 patch. This is its aftermath. First thing I'll say is that reinstalling your game is a waste of time. Second thing I'll add is don't expect Scripthook V to fix anything and certainly don't blame it.
So what can you do to fix your game?
1. Install a new gameconfig mod but keep it conservative for now, go with base traffic. Don't start tweaking values as that will only introduce more complexity. Keep it simple.
2. If the game still doesn't load, try removing the new DLC as it may be causing conflicts. You can remove all 4 of the new folders for patch 1.64 or try one by one. You don't need to delete them, just remove the xml entries from your dlclist.xml in your mods folder.
These are the patch 1.64 DLC additions:
dlcpacks:/mpchristmas3/
dlcpacks:/mpchristmas3_g9ec/
dlcpacks:/patchday28ng/
dlcpacks:/patchday28g9ecng/
Note that some dlcpacks are strictly for GTA 5 Expanded and Enhanced which was only released for the next-gen consoles. These are packs that end in ecng.
If after those 2 steps, your game is still crashing, well it's not a shock - troubleshooting is not an easy process. Try this: Fix game after a GTA5 Patch and as a last resort try this: Game Still Crashing After Update?
The good news is that all games can be fixed. Just a question of being patient, focused, systematic, and paying attention to detail. You should also consider reverting if you can. Avoiding R* Headaches Twice a Year or More
