When All Else Fails - No Fix Works!

So the last GTA 5 patch broke your game and you can't even get it to load. You're mad as hell. You've tried all the solutions on this site and on our sister site, The GTA 5 911 Solution, and nothing has worked. You're ready to devote your gaming life to Fortnite and Minecraft and never buy another game from Rockstar or Take-Two Interactive.

Well here's the bad news. You might need to start from scratch or pretty close to it. Why is that you ask? Well, the solutions on this site are based on one very big assumption, and we know assumptions are just that, and nothing more.

The big assumption is that you didn't install any mod, particularly Visual Mods or OIVs, that replace files in your root or mods folder which unfortunately resulted in your game no longer being compatible with the current patch. Remember that the majority of mods can be uninstalled simply by removing them. This doesn't apply to mods, like the ones identified above, that replace your files and can't be easily be uninstalled. Unfortunately a verify integrity or full GTA 5 reinstalls only apply to the vanilla game itself, not to the modded game. They won't fix any mod issues.

The guiding principles behind the solutions here is that you can isolate where your problems are: hardware, software, root, mods, or scripts folder. However, if key files within the mods folder in particular have been replaced by misbehaved mods, you need to restore those files.

Depending on the extent that files have been replaced or compromised, it might be just simpler to bite the bullet and start again. If you don't want to start from scratch, you will be pretty safe keeping all the essential files and your trainer. You won't have to worry about Update.rpf if you copied it over after the patch, but you'll still need to restore you dlclist.xml and other customized files and of course ensure you have an updated gameconfig.xml.

The only X factor will be other files that may have been mysteriously replaced somewhere within your game or modding environment.

Now the good news. What is described above is very unlikely to happen. It would be really bad luck because 99.99% of games will be fixed if you followed the guides on our two sites faithfully.

But again, when all else fails, start fresh, it can't hurt.
